The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it deems “unjustified” visa bans issued by the United States on five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official stated.
EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders including the French president charged Washington of “bullying and threats”, following the visa restrictions were placed on figures who have been central to efforts to introduce laws regulating US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress US perspectives they oppose,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials joined the French president in condemning the move.
The bans were enacted on Tuesday on an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), as well as four activists fighting false information, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
